Schoodic Peninsula

Acadia's quiet half — a granite point an hour's drive east of Mount Desert Island, with a one-way loop road, far smaller crowds, and the same pink-granite-and-surf coastline. Schoodic Point takes the open Atlantic head-on, the Schoodic Head trails climb to ridge views, and Schoodic Woods is the campground. A half-day or an overnight, and the only part of Acadia on the mainland.
