Camping in Yosemite

Yosemite's campgrounds are among the most contested reservations in the national park system. The Valley campgrounds — Upper and Lower Pines, North Pines, and Camp 4 — operate on a rolling 5-month reservation window on Recreation.gov, and the popular dates fill within minutes of opening. Book the exact moment your window opens; there is no reliable walk-up option in summer. High-country campgrounds (Tuolumne Meadows, Crane Flat, White Wolf) only open when Tioga Road is passable, typically June through October depending on snowpack, and compete directly with the Valley for summer slots. If you miss the reservation window, the Wawona campground on the southern approach is slightly less pressured. Yosemite is not requiring a timed-entry day-use reservation for 2026, though it has returned in past peak seasons; when it is in effect, overnight guests inside the park are exempt — camping inside Yosemite sidesteps that logistics layer. Confirm the current status on the NPS Yosemite page before your trip.
