Where to Base

Where to base near Mount Rainier

A Rainier trip runs out of one of two towns, depending on which entrance you're targeting. Ashford sits just outside the Nisqually entrance on the south side — the closest overnight option to Paradise and the wildflower meadows. Packwood, 12 miles south on US-12, is the quieter alternative with lower prices and access to the south and southeast corners of the park. Open a town for its lodging, services, and how it positions you for the next morning's drive in.
