Guided experiences around Grand Teton

The Snake River float is the park's signature guided experience — a calm-water drift through cottonwood groves with the Teton Range filling the horizon behind you. It's available as a 3-hour scenic float or a half-day with additional canyon sections; most operators launch from the Moose–Wilson Road corridor. Wildlife safaris are the other pillar: Jackson Hole's valley floor is one of the most productive wildlife-viewing areas in the lower 48 — bison herds, moose in the willows, pronghorn on the flats, and grizzly bears active throughout the park in summer. Dawn and dusk are the productive windows; the 9 tours below cover both the float and the wildlife circuit, plus full-day interpretive tours for first-timers.

Wildlife Viewing: Moose-Wilson Road & Willow Flats

    Moose-Wilson Road & Willow Flats

    Price Free

Grand Teton is one of the best wildlife-watching parks in the system, and two spots stand out at the day's edges. The narrow, partly-unpaved Moose-Wilson Road is the park's prime moose habitat, often closed to bikes or autos when a bear is feeding nearby. Willow Flats, below Jackson Lake Lodge, draws moose, elk, and the occasional grizzly. Go at dawn or dusk, bring binoculars, and stay at least 100 yards from bears and wolves, 25 from other wildlife.

    Stargazing in Grand Teton

    Jackson Lake & park-wide

Grand Teton's high elevation and dry mountain air make for some of the darkest skies in the Rockies. On clear, moonless nights from late spring through fall the Milky Way arcs plainly over the range, and open spots along Jackson Lake and the Teton Park Road pullouts give an unobstructed view once your eyes adjust. Pack layers — nights run cold at altitude even in summer — and a red flashlight to keep your night vision. Rangers run occasional summer night-sky programs.
