Where to Base
Where you base for a Grand Canyon trip shapes everything from the drive in to the dinner options. Grand Canyon Village is in-park — the closest you can get to the South Rim and the viewpoints, at a price. Tusayan is the commercial strip 1 mile outside the south gate — restaurants, hotels, and the IMAX, 5 minutes from Mather Point. Kanab is 72 miles out but serves as a three-park arc basecamp if you're combining Grand Canyon with Zion or Bryce Canyon. Each town below opens to its hub: lodging, things to do, and the lay of the place.
